CAMRIS Evaluating Supervision Training for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Employee Education System

September 15, 2008 - CAMRIS announced today the initiation of the evaluation of the “Nuts and Bolts of Supervision,” a required training national curriculum for new supervisors for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Employee Education System under an ADDIE Task Order (see www.ADDIEProject.com). ADDIE provides a full range of eLearning services, production and management to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and its nationwide network of hospitals. “New Supervisors” are employees who are promoted or hired into a supervisory position and have less than 12 months of previous VA supervisory experience. This applies to all disciplines, services and levels. The training is currently offered in three different modalities – Face-to-Face, online instructor-led, and online self-study modules. CAMRIS will design an evaluation to compare the effectiveness of the three modalities and to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum overall. CAMRIS will evaluate outcomes in three VISNs (Veterans Integrated Service Networks) , each using one of these modalities exclusively: VISN 2 (Upstate NY), uses a three-week face-to-face format; VISN 6 (Virginia/North Carolina) uses online instructor-led via blackboard.com; and VISN 7 (South Carolina/Georgia) is using the online self-study modules. CAMRIS will address the essential questions of: how well is the training working in building supervisory competencies, what elements are driving success or failure of learning transfer, and which training modalities result in the best outcomes?
